Avengers assemble! After a long wait, the time has finally come to see the next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After being responsible for an epic superhero movie that confirmed Marvel’s successful path in its cinematic adventure, Joss Whedon is the man in charge of making things right in the final installment of phase two. Great visual effects and action sequences are guaranteed and the world will get a short glimpse of what is being prepared for the next phase but, after setting the bar really high with The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, will Marvel be able to please the fans with this new adventure that features the heroes we’ve been following since Iron Man?  It’s time to talk about The Avengers: Age of Ultron!

When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for a global adventure. It’s probably the loudest movie in the entire franchise that unites again Marvel’s amazing team of superheroes to defeat an enemy created by Tony Stark’s ambition. Age of Ultron opens some doors in the path towards the Infinity War but when compared with Guardians or Winter Soldier, all the action and thrilling moments were not enough to conquer me completely. The story follows Marvel’s successful formula without adding relevant aspects to a story that will last until Infinity War and sees its full potential in a series of amazing events that will bring fun and excitement to the franchise’s fans. So basically, even though the innovation factor is kept away from the full picture, I must say I had a tremendous amount of fun watching this epic movie that adds some really cool new superheroes to the story. The chemistry among the team of superheroes sees a massive threat when Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) starts using her power to manipulate their minds while helping Ultron accomplishing his mission. Weak and afraid, the Avengers will face a challenge that will put everyone against each other and that will lead them into a dangerous journey in which the Iron Man will face the Hulk in a really thrilling battle, that you might have seen in the trailers/TV spots that were released in the previous weeks.

The whole idea of Ultron is interesting in the sense that he is the result of an immeasurable ambition of both Tony Stark and Bruce Banner. Without either Natalie Portman or Gwyneth Paltrow, there’s still time to develop a new (probably unnecessary) love story in the middle of all that mess caused by Ultron’s mission. The twins sub-plot revealed interesting details about Hydra and with S.H.I.E.L.D. off the ground, the Avengers will have a rough time making important decisions.  Another great moment of the story is the appearance of Vision, created by Ultron in order to accomplish his mission that was basically mankind’s extinction. So, basically The Avengers: Age of Ultron appears in the franchise as a way of introducing new characters that will probably have a big influence in the next chapters. Hulk is probably one of the most important characters in the whole movie since he will show an emotional development that will make him reveal his fears and I also found exciting to see Captain America and Iron Man disagreeing in some aspects right before Marvel’s up-coming movie Civil War. With the team of superheroes falling apart from inside, The Avengers: Age of Ultron sets indeed the beginning of a new age.

For the fans and for those who enjoy action-packed movies with great visual effects and thrilling moments, The Avengers: Age of Ultron follows Marvel’s formula in an amazing way, featuring some of the best action sequences I’ve seen in the franchise. However, those who still remain reluctant to the saga will not see any breakthrough. The Avengers: Age of Ultron sets the path for a third and final phase that will gather all the heroes in a quest against the villain Marvel’s been anticipating ever since the first Avengers, Thanos. With several movies yet to be released, it’s clear that Marvel decided to play safe this time. Either way, the thrilling moments and the action-packed sequences that lasted several minutes made the whole experience quite amazing and now I’m really excited to see things falling apart in Civil War!
