E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

Hello everyone and welcome to the first edition of MUST, a brand new space in which I will reveal some really great movies that you should watch. Some editions might be about two or more movies but since this is the first one I decided to write about one movie in particular that will probably bring some of your childhood memories back to life. In 1982, more than 30 years ago, Steven Spielberg directed one of his most sentimental movies: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and on this first edition of MUST I will give you enough reasons to watch it.

More than 30 year’s after the release, this Sci-Fi classic directed by Steven Spielberg is a must-see that you probably saw in your childhood years. I saw this movie in the 2002 re-release for the celebration of the 20th Anniversary and I loved the story so damn much. “E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL” deserves the praises and the attention that it gets years after the release. Winner of four Academy Awards for Best Sound Effects, Best visual Effects, Best Sound and Best Score, “E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL” was also nominated for another five categories including Best Picture. A touching story about the relationship between a young boy and a friendly alien who wants to escape Earth and return to his home planet. Probably the first time that many moviegoers saw Drew Barrymore, “E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL” is a great movie for everyone.

“E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL” was a blockbuster that become the highest-grossing film of all time (this record was only surpassed in 1993 by another Spielberg’s movie: “Jurassic Park”) and was highly acclaimed by the critics. A timeless adventure filled with fantasy that deserves to be watched not only for the moving story but also to witness one of the greatest hits in cinema history.

One night, a group of aliens visits Earth and is discovered by a human task force. Unfortunately one of the visitors is left behind and therefore finds himself alone in a planet that was unknown for him. Lucky for him, he found a friend that will help him contact his home, a ten year-old boy named Elliot. Elliot finds the little alien looking for food in his family garden. While the forces work hard in order to track down the whereabouts of the visitor, Elliot, his brother Michael and his sister Gertie give their best to make him feel better. After being able to communicate with Elliot and the others, his strong wish of returning home is finally possible with the help of his new friends. The E.T. builds a device to send a message home so that his folks would come and pick him up but after a couple of days he gets sick and so does Elliot, because of the power connection they share. In the end you’ll probably cry or at least feel moved.

“E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL” is a powerful movie about friendship and hope. A movie that needs to be shown to the kids nowadays. A masterpiece in the world of cinema and a clear evidence of the huge talent of Steven Spielberg. If you haven’t watched it already I suggest you do so because in the end I’m absolutely sure that you will enjoy every single moment. A movie made for everyone that will remain in history forever. More than 30 years after its release, “E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL” is truly a movie you must watch before you die.
