Hello everyone and welcome to the first weekly edition of FRIDAY MADNESS! This is a place where I will share my opinions and thoughts about the upcomming movies and I will also give a bit of my attention to the world of sci-fi/horror movies. FRIDAY MADNESS it’s my informal weekly chornicle where everyone it’s invited to show their opinion! This week I will focus my attention on the up-comming movies Divergent and Nurse.

The success of “The Hunger Games” made Lionsgate realize one thing: Young Adult dystopian novels are a really great way to get a larger audience and to win more money. It’s a fact that almost every movie based on Young Adult novels has almost guaranteed success at the box office. Twilight did it. The Hunger Games did it even better. And therefore the power of this YA novels has gained a lot of respect in the industry of cinema.

Unfortunately despite all this, I’m expecting that Divergent, the Liongate’s Summit Entertainment adaptation of the YA novel by Veronica Roth with the same title, will have some difficulties at the box office since in the same month the 300 sequel, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Noah and Muppets: Most Wanted will be released.

Divergent it’s the story of Beatrice Prior, a teenager with a special mind (she is a Divergent) that finds herself threatened by an authoritarian leader that wants to control society. I got a little bit of curiosity after watching the latest trailer released on the internet and therefore I decided to read the novel by Veronica Roth. I will try to do my best and read it before the beginning of March and after that I will publish an article about what I’m expecting from this movie!

If you have read the book already, I am really interested in knowing your opinion. The latest trailer released for Divergent can be seen here:

You know what really grinds my gears? Bad horror movies. It’s not that hard to found one. And since 2000 there are a lots of examples that represent the lack of quality in the genre nowadays. But what makes a horror movie bad? Perhaps the scary cliché sequences or the lack of substance (like a really bad plot or awful performances). In the world of horror movies it’s really hard to succeed because almost everything was done already. So it’s there any hope for nowadays horror movies? Yes there is and movies like The Conjuring, Insidious, Cabin in the Woods and Sinister support my opinion. And there is one in particular that had more guts than the rest. I am talking about Cabin in the Woods, the movie that surprised almost everyone and gave more credibility to the world of horror movies. And what did Cabin in the Woods had? A really great story and a lot of style.

After watching the trailer of Nurse, I can assure you that I was shocked and I could not believe that Lionsgate had produced a movie like this one. It looks so awkward and dumb but at the same time I could notice a lot of style and that made everything look better. Nurse doesn’t appear to be one of those horror movies with a weak story and terribly executed scary scenes. The trailer looks a bit like a crazy nightmare in which a nurse works at night luring cheating men to their brutal deaths. I don’t think that this is going to be a really great thing but almost 5 days after the announcement from LIONSGATE that SAW VIII (yes you read it well) was in development I kinda find Nurse a little bit interesting and different. A movie with a lot of sexuality, style, boobs and violent sequences. A little escape from the typical possession/haunted house horror movie that instead of being great, appears to focus only in entertaining everyone and if this was Lionsgate’s real purpose to produce this film, I do believe that they will be successful.

Before saying goodbye I just want to say that I am looking forward to publish BAMBOO AWARDS Winners Announcement on the last Sunday of February. Give me your feedback about what do you think of these movies and follow pandaschoice.com on Facebook by clicking here. As a gift I will leave you with this really “great” trailer I found the past month.
