Because it’s always great to introduce Portuguese cinema festivals to people around the world who don’t have the single clue of what great things are made in Portugal, I’ve decided to present you a 5-day festival dedicated to the horror genre and that will take place this September in Lisbon. In its eight anual edition, MOTELx (Festival Internacional de Cinema de Terror de Lisboa) brings some of the most recent horror films, workshops, masterclasses and it features also a short film competiton.
From September 10th to September 14th, MOTELx will bring chills and screams to three well known places from Lisbon: Cinema São Jorge, Teatro Tivoli BBVA and Palácio Foz.
This year, in the main section of the festival, the highlight goes to the release of “Honeymoon” here in Portugal, Leigh Janiak’s first feature film about a couple who travels to a remote lake for their honeymoon and that will live a series of sinister and dark events that will put their lives into grave danger.
Alongside with the main section, there is a competition of Portuguese short films taking place with 13 movies and a masterclass of special effects with Dan Frye from “Shaun of the Dead” and “Prometheus”. It will also take place in the festival, the first masterclass of stunt preformers with David Chan.
For those of you who are interested in attending the festival, I will publish some articles about this festival soon. Till then feel free to check the official website of the festival: http://www.motelx.org/.
