Marvel Studios is working really hard to make its Cinematic Universe really good and there are a lot of new upcoming movies on the schedule for moviegoers who enjoy superhero movies as much as I do. Yesterday at night I finally saw “Captain America: The First Avenger”. I know it’s been a long time since the movie was released but to be honest the idea of a hero with a powerful shield did not seem that attractive to me. I was surprised in the end because it was really enjoyable and fun.
The HYDRA project, the war and that 40’s style was unquestionably interesting. Captain America’s enemy in the movie, Red Skull, was a tough Nazi with a terrible plan that introduced the Tesseract in the Cinematic Universe. The cast of the first movie was a surprise to me (I am a huge fan of Tommy Lee Jones and I had no idea that he was in the movie) and there were some other cool facts that made the movie different from the rest like presenting the founder of the STARK Empire, Howard Stark. After “Captain America: The First Avenger” the world was ready to one of the biggest smash hits in cinema history: “The Avengers”.
As an introduction to the world of “The Avengers”, “Captain America: The First Avenger” worked really well but the high amount of good reviews (almost 94% in the Tomatometer the last time I checked) that the sequel was getting made me think that it was not just another superhero movie sequel and because of that I was “forced” to watch it.
The movie starts with an operation in which Captain America and other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are trying to rescue some hostages from one stolen ship. We meet Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow) and some other characters that are relevant to the story. After the succesful rescue, Nick Fury finds out that there is something going on and that it might be dangerous. With the help of Captain America, Black Widow, Maria Hill (yes, Colbie Summers is back on the Cinematic Universe) and Falcon, they will have to fight to protect mankind from an evil plan that was being set up inside S.H.I.E.L.D.’s headquarters.
With lots of action sequences and amazing battles, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” was one of the best superhero movies I’ve seen. The plot and the cast worked so well together that there weren’t any boring moments in the entire movie. It was a thrilling ride to the world of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Instead of being just another sequel that focuses only on the hero, the movie shows a clear sight of some of the things that happen inside the headquarters and part of the story of the department.
In order to protect the world from the bad guys, Cpt. America has to fight against a rough killer commanded by the H.Y.D.R.A. folks: The Winter Soldier (his best friend back in the 40’s: Bucky Barnes). If you are thinking already in watch it, trust me, this movie deserves to be watched. It’s thrilling not just for the fans but also for the regular moviegoers. Chris Evans had a great performance and it’s always great to watch Samuel L. Jackson interpreting the one and only Nick Fury.
Funny, full-packed with action sequences in which you’ll watch amazing battles and visual effects and really entertaining, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” reaches the quality of Marvel Studio’s “The Avengers” and the “X-Men” saga. It was simply amazing and awesome. An evidence that Marvel Studios is doing a great work by creating this Cinematic Universe that even though its huge dimension has already amazed us with high-quality movies.
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is definitely a must-see.
