And the Oscar goes to…

oscars selfieYesterday, after a long period of waiting, the world finally saw the winner’s announcement of this year’s Academy Awards! A night of glamour, victories and great speeches, hosted by the amazing Ellen DeGeneres. It was an amazing ceremony with funny moments but curiously without any great surprise. From Jennifer Lawrence’s fall in the red carpet to the breathtaking performance by Idina Menzel singing “Let it Go” from Diseny’s “Frozen” (winner of BEST ORIGINAL SONG), the most prestigious event of Hollywood had glamour, style and amazing winners.

Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby” won the awards for BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN and BEST COSTUME DESIGN. This stylish adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel deserves this awards since the storytelling was innovative and every moment in the movie was vibrant and beautiful to see.

Disney’s “Frozen”  also won two Oscars, one for BEST ORIGINAL SONG (“Let it Go”) and the other for BEST ANIMATED FEATURE. Both of this awards were really easy to predict since it’s was unquestionable the superiority when compared with the other nominees in both categories.

“Gravity” took home 7 Oscars: BEST SOUND MIXING, BEST SOUND EDITING, BEST CINEMATOGRAHPY, BEST FILM EDITING, BEST ORIGINAL SCORE, BEST DIRECTING and BEST VISUAL EFFECTS. Alfonso Cuáron’s sci-fi masterpiece swept almost all the technical awards and was competing against “12 Years a Slave” for the BEST PICTURE OF THE YEAR award. All these victories were predicted by me since “Gravity” was probably one of the most amazing sci-fi movies ever made. But you could take a look on my predictions to read why I picked “Gravity” for these categories.

“12 Years a Slave” directed by Steve McQueen won 3 awards, one for BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY, the other one for BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS (“Lupita Nyong’o”) and finally the most important award of the ceremony BEST PICTURE OF THE YEAR. My predictions were correct but during the ceremony I was having some doubts whether the Academy was giving the award to Jennifer Lawrence instead. Fortunately, justice was made and the actress that deserved the most this award was honored for her amazing performance.

“Dallas Buyers Club” also won 3 awards: BEST LEADING ACTOR (Mathew McConaughey), BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR (Jared Leto) and BEST MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING (one of my wrong predictions). The first two awards were easy to predict while the other one was a surprise for me. I thought that “Bad Grandpa” deserved to win that award for the amazing makeup behind the old Johnny Knoxville.

Cate Blanchett won the Oscar for BEST LEADING ACTRESS for her outstanding performance in “Blue Jasmine” and Spike Jonze’s “Her” won the award for BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY.

“American Hustle” with 10 nominations and Scorcesse’s “The Wolf of Wall Street” were the losers of the evening, without winning any award.

After predicting correctly 22 out of 24 categories (some of them are not in Panda’s Choice and are only available here), Panda’s Choice is proud to end this Oscars coverage with some of the best photos and videos of the ceremony! Thank you for support and for following Panda’s Choice!
