29th Independent Spirit Awards – Results

The winners of the 29th Independent Spirit Awards were announced today, just one day before the most prestigious award ceremony in the history of cinema. In the main categories, For BEST INTERNATIONAL FILM, the movie “Blue is the Warmest Color” took the prize against two Oscar’s nominees for Best Foreign Language Film (“The Great Beauty” and “The Hunt”). Nat Sanders from “Short Term 12” won the award for BEST EDITING and Sean Bobbitt from “12 Years a Slave” won  the award for BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY. Also competing for the second category:  “Spring Breakers”,  “Inside Llewyn Davis” (Nominee for BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY at this year’s Academy Awards), “All is Lost” and the weird “Computer Chess”. Bob Nelson won the BEST FIRST SCREENPLAY  award for “Nebraska” and John Ridley from “12 Years a Slave” took the award for BEST SCREENPLAY. “Dallas Buyers Club” won two awards: Matthew McConaughey won BEST MALE LEAD for his outstandig performance as Ron Woodroof and Jared Leto won the award for BEST SUPPORTING MALE. They were competing against some of the Oscars nominees for the same categories such as Michael Fassbender (“12 Years a Slave”), Bruce Dern (“Nebraska”) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave”). Oscar Isaac from “Inside Llewyn Davis” and Keith Stanfield from “Short Term 12” were also nominated. Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years a Slave”) won the award for BEST SUPPORTING FEMALE and Cate Blanchett won the award for BEST FEMALE LEAD. Competing against Cate Blachett were Brie Larson for “Short Term 12″ and Shailene Woodley” for “The Spectacular Now” (both nominated for BEST RISING STAR in the BAMBOO AWARDS -winners list here-). Steve McQueen took home the BEST DIRECTOR award for “12 Years a Slave” and the winner of the BEST PICTURE award was “12 Years a Slave”. “Inside Llewyn Davis”, “All is Lost” and “Nebraska” were also competing in this category.

After knocking out the competition in the Independent Spirit Awards and just one day before the Academy Awards ceremony, will “12 Years a Slave” defeat “Gravity” in the main categories of the Academy Awards? This sunday we will know the answer for this question!
