I decided to watch “Sinister” after watching Jeremy Jahns review on YouTube. In the beginning I was wondering if this was a thriller or a horror movie because the story’s slow pace mixed with the mysterious atmosphere was not horror friendly. “Sinister” its the story of a true-crime writer who moves with is family to a new house to get some useful in a new murder research he was working on. Everything seemed okay until he found a cache of 8mm home movies films. Instead of investigating a murder, he was now investigating a serial killer who committed horrendous crimes. But his research will put everyone lives in danger, because instead of solving the murder he was dealing with a demonical entity that was involved in all the crimes he was investigating.
“Sinister” has a lot of scary moments, some of them a bit cliché, but the mysterious story will catch you attention and in the middle of the film you will feel stuck to everything that is happening in that house. “Sinister” works really well as a horror movie but it also works as a Thriller. A really great Thriller, in my honest opinion. Like Insidious and Cabin in the Woods, “Sinister” will tease and provoke your mind. Another proof that it’s still possible to make great horror movies. Surprisingly effective, “Sinister” mysterious story will scare you and will entertain you a lot.
